Christadelphians

The name 'Christadelphian' comes from two Greek words 'Christos', translated as Christ, and 'adelphos', meaning brother. Christadelphians regard themselves as brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ, from Christ's own words in Matthew:

  • "For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother." [Matthew 12:50 RSV]

We are an entirely lay community (i.e. one with no priesthood), and have no central office. We believe wholly in the Bible, which is 'the whole counsel of God', and our beliefs are therefore those of First Century Christians. The name 'Christadelphian' was chosen to identify us as a separate body from the established Churches.

We are not a cult, and we do not 'brain-wash' people. We believe that it is important that all our members join and remain with us entirely voluntarily. We only ask that those who do not have our beliefs do not stay with us.

We 'break bread' and drink wine weekly in memory of Christ's death and resurrection. The Bible says, and therefore we believe

  • that there is one God, the Father, and that Jesus Christ is his Son, subject to him;
  • that Jesus has promised to return (very shortly, we hope) to set up his kingdom on earth;
  • that man is mortal, and sinning, and that Christ came to redeem man and lead him back to God.
  • that man is the only being that sins

We do not find taught in scripture, and therefore do not believe:

  • in a Trinity
  • in immortal souls
  • in hell-fire or eternal torments
  • that there is a personal Devil.
